I am the kind of photographer who likes options and also believes that camera technology should serve the needs of the photographer as well as the general consumer. An open documentation of RAW coding as well as a general RAW standard would greatly benefit the prosumer and DSLR owners because it would cut down on end-user costs, improve software development for programs such as Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro, and even bring consumers a greater level of quality in their photos when they can simply shoot and not worry about getting a good shot until they get to the image processing stage. History shows us that technological strides are made when companies work to do what's best for the consumer and not their wallets which is what we are now seeing in the DSLR hardware development.
