...a camera company to whom I have...

...a camera company to whom I have shown years of loyalty should not now be able to dictate to me that I MUST use their particular workflow. I purchase Nikon's professional products because I think that they best fit the way that I make photographs. It isn't a matter of money, I have also purchased Nikon's Capture software (and have upgraded to 4.2) for use in uploading curves and manipulating fisheye images from the 10.5mm lens. Each tool has its best use. For me PhotoshopCS best fits my workflow of my Nikon images.

I had planned on purchasing the D2X in the next month or two, but I will certainly NOT be purchasing a D2X (or an Hs) until these cameras allow me to use the workflow platform of my choice (Adobe's PS.CS).

It is NOT up to Nikon to dictate how I process my digital images made with their cameras any more than they should have dictated that I use Diafine for my Tri-X shot in an F100.

This decision will backfire on them in the marketplace and should certainly be reconsidered or ammended before it is too late. Now that Canon has solved a lot of their flash issues with ETTL-II, they are begining to look a lot more attractive.

Ideally, the main manufacturers would adopt DNG as a RAW platform and spend more of their money on perfecting their body designs, optics and processors.

Just bought my first Nikon DSLR. The D70. Prior to this I had an S1 that was OK but I wanted to use RAW and decided the D70 was cheap enough to use as a test bench. I had been looking forward to going to the latest Nikon until I found out that my program of choice, Adobe PS CS (v2.0 due here in May) would not read the RAW files from future Nikons.

Well... I've beena lifelong Nikon user. For the past 25 years its been Nikon and Hasselblad but the love affair has suddenly soured. The pictures and the files are mine. I own them; the data collected is my stuff not theirs and I'll be damned if I'll play that game.
