...EVERYONE benefited from the standardization of the "E-6 type" process for color TP's. The manufacturers provided film, we controlled how the light hit it, and ran it through a processor. That stood us in good stead for many years, and as we transition to digital, we want (read ) the same smooth workflow.
I'm the staff photographer at a publishing company, shooting fifty books a year. We've held onto film this long just so we wouldn't get caught in the snare of having to visit a museum to view images we had shot a decade ago. We're now shopping for camera systems, and are paying attention to which corporations are foresighted enough to consider our needs.
Certain lessons have been taught to industry in years past; household DC voltage lines, Sony BetaMax, et al. When will these companies learn that their future depends on a partnership with customers? They have nothing to gain by trying to force our hands.
