For the time being I'm useing a film slr camera, and takeing into consideration the problems with RAW format I'm not very sure about switching to dslr for serious photography, I'll get a cheap point and shot for every day use and stick with my old camera for "real work".

Fabian, don't let these problems put you off.

These problems are thought-provoking, but not stoppers. I am personally confident that all my Raw files will have a long life, either in their current format (DNG) or via conversions that I will have plenty of time to plan.

I don't know for sure what the long term position will be, but we will have one, as a result of OpenRAW and other initiatives.

(I have 5 35mm SLRs, but now use a dSLR almost exclusively).

unless you shoot only B&W or Kodachrome and very carefully store your originals, the lifespan of clasic analog originals isn't all that great as well, so the digital is not so bad compared to that...
