RAW Format Documentation Here

Whay not start documenting raw formats here? Could the people who have looked at the raw files and reverse engineered them put those documents here?

That might convince the camera manufactuters to do the same - once the realize that it is pointless to to try and hide this info.

Surely the knowledge that ALREADY a lot of software can handle their Raw files is more convincing than documenting the format? Especially given the availability of Dave Coffin's C code.

But, as Thomas Knoll has pointed out elsewhere, beware of an "arms race". Manufacturers can cause lots of short-term trouble if they are silly enough. The objectives of this website, to convince the manufacturers to be sensible, (instead of defying them), is a more productive long term answer.

(Camera manufacturers really are a bit silly here! The existence of high-quality image editing & management packages makes their cameras appear to have higher value and be more attractive! "Raw" brings out the reasons for buying an expensive camera more than JPEG does, so surely all those 3rd-party Raw processors are helping to sell more top-end cameras?)
