I believe that I am the owner of the images coming out of my cameras and should have full access to all the data. I should be able to post process these images in anyway I wish and should not have to be overly concerned about my images becoming obsolete. Nikon's recent RAW white balance encryption policy hurts my workflow, causes me to worry greatly about the future of my files, and makes me wish I never stopped shooting film.

A different RAW format for every camera is a silly situation and will be impossible to support for very long. If there was a common format, Nikon would not be able to subject me to all this extra pain and work. Shame on them for treating their customers so poorly and trying to force me to use their (in my opinion) inferior software products. Nikon should stick to what it does best, making cameras. I don't buy Nikon's argument that it is looking out for my best interests (protecting the "integrity" of the NEF file).

My best interests are served by not being limited in my post processing options and by a file format that will still be supported in the future.
