I do not want to be forced by my camera...
I do not want to be forced by my camera manufacturer to use their software.
I bought their camera and I want to be able to feel free to use my RAW image in whatever image processing package suits my needs. If that is the camera makers software then so be it. But if it another image processor I do not want to be hindered in my RAW workflow. It must remain my choice and not theirs.

Open Raw leads to competition amongst RAW converters which in turn leads to improved and chaper products for the consumer ie us.
We can see nnow how products vie for success with the "camera"software.
ie Rawmagick. ACR, Bibble etc
All these have to constantly innovate to sell themselves.
Loss of competition would lead to stagnation and inferior software.
It is not about who "owns" the image.....it is about our right to use it in the way we want
