Camera manufacturers are good at making...

Camera manufacturers are good at making cameras, as a pro photographer that is what I want to buy from a camera manufacturer. Software developers create software, not cameras, and many are very good at that and I buy software from them. With the sole exception of KODAK PHOTODESK I have seen NO SOFTWARE from a camera manufacturer that I have or would use unless forced to (but Kodak in truth are not and never have been a pro camera manufacturer). After many years of building cameras and letting us put any film we choose into them why can't camera manufacturers have enough common sense to realise that helping software developers to FULLY SUPPORT their RAW file formats can only enhance their cameras in the eyes of pro photographers.
The real big issue here though is long term support for older formats, the recent demise of CONTAX and KODAK professional digital cameras demonstrate the potential for manufacturers to cease support for whatever reason for their products. As a owner of a Kodak DSLR I now find myself wondering about how I will access my old RAW files on the next generation of PCs and MACs I don't expect my favourite Kodak Photodesk software will be usable in just 25 years time.
