Digital camera RAW files offer the camera user access to the latent image information recorded by the camera sensor at the time of exposure. This access to the latent image gives the photographer more control over the finished result than with film. For the future camera manufacturers should devise a standard latent image file format and, to ensure survival of existing digital camera RAW images, devise software for translating existing digital camera RAW files to latent image file format.
