The value of the picture is based on its possibilty to be interpreted/read- now and later. It is bad enough that CD's and DVD's age and formats for these risk to become obsolete. The risk for a given company to disappear or cease to support a given format compounds the problem above. Efforts, dreams, ambitions etc from many people can be eradicated for i.e. commercial reason to end a product or a company. Compare this to paper that evaporates at an unpredictable moment! Bad news for libraries and mankind, indeed!
