OpenRAW

I was excited when I puchased my Nikon D70 only to find out that Nikon encodes part of the RAW image. Why does that not sound like RAW to me? *.nef is not RAW. RAW should be RAW. NOTHING should be altered. Now I have to get extra software/plug-ins to be able to fully enjoy my digital images. BOHICA
