I support the open RAW initiative...

I support the open RAW initiative because it encourages innovation. As a Nikon shooter I regularly use Bibble for RAW conversion because of its speed and color saturation, I use Adobe Camera RAW when I need to rescue partially blown highlights and I use Nikon Capture when I need to recover shadow detail. Each of these products has a strong point and a place in my workflow. If we are limited to the OEM's software or their conversion engine embedded in other manufacturer's software via a standard SDK we lose the creativity and innovation of multiple vendors. Additionally I worry about long term access to my RAW files as some camera manufacturers have already dropped support for one or more RAW formats from older cameras. Nikon makes great cameras and fantastic lenses, but they haven't proven their ability to design great software. I support any initiative that encourages third party solutions to imaging workflow and encourages instead of stifles creativity.
