1_Only with an open format can you get full access to the pictures you shoot in Raw mode.
2_An illustration of the above is for example, the Nikon D2x has provided the best auto white balance (WB) of any of their products. I cannot acces this with PS and Camera Raw, because Nikon encodes WB. I have to use Nikon Capure and then transfer to PS, messes up workflow.
3_Archiving would be much simplified if we had an open format. With good will this works well, the best example is the TIF format developed by Aldus and Adobe.
