If RAW is a digital negative it should be as readable as Ansell Adams's negatives 100 years from now.
I use RAW to enhance the quality of my work; if the manufacturer of my equipment makes my work inaccessible, he is effectively failing in his responsibilities. At the very least, if a format is rendered redundant the means of reading it should be made permanently available free of charge, but openly documented RAW formats would probably protect the interests of the customers even better.
