Raw Data is equivalent to the Negative. Traditionaly the negative has always belonged to the photographer.

If Nikon continue to encrypt Raw white balance data and prevent software developers from legaly accessing the data then Nikon can expect anger from the photographic community.

Professional photographers will not trust their livelyhood to a camera Make that withholds information on the processing of the RAW file.

I have emailed Nikon to complain about their encryption and have not received a response. So much for Nikon's customer service!

One fortunate thing in all of this is that there are alternative brand cameras that accept Nikon lenses. And for those not locked into Nikon lenses there are other brand cameras of similar specifications.

Hopefully Nikon will see their error and come to the party quickly rather than publish undecipherable responses like the recent press release on April 22 2005.
