I wholeheartedly agree that fully and openly documented RAW file formats are necessary. Archivability is enough of an issue with digital images. Media archivability does not need to be compounded by whether or not the file will be able to be read in the future.

Nikon, change your policiy and openly document the NEF file format. I own a lot of Nikon gear and will not buy anymore until this is done.
