The Doom Scenario: Suppose Nikon,...

The Doom Scenario:

Suppose Nikon, Canon, and perhaps another company or two get together and decide one of these days that there's no compelling reason, from a profit potential point of view, for their cameras to support any image format other than their own respective proprietary raw file formats?

...maybe as a consolation prize offer intermediate or preview quality JPEG files as an option, but making it clear that for achieving optimal image qualty one would be forced to buy that company's software at that company'own pricing.

There's no law which says a professional level DSLR camera must produce industry standard file formats.

It would be corporate suicide for a top selling company to do on it's own, but if, for example, Nikon and Canon both decided to go this route, what would we do?
