To me, RAW vs. JPEG is like processing...

To me, RAW vs. JPEG is like processing your own film at home versus taking it to a 1-hour lab at the local supermarket. Since I never had the opportunity to work in a film darkroom, I appreciate having that kind of control available now that I shoot with a digital SLR. What I do _not_ appreciate is when camera manufacturers do things to control how and with whom I process my own RAW files (that is, copyrighted by _me_, not by [camera manufacturer]). For workflow choice and archivability reasons, RAW formats _must_ remain uninhibited by encryption and other draconian tactics to legally bind photographers to one company's processing software.
