The last 31 files though being seen as files of the right size and type cannot be opened because of corruption. Having tried several file recovery applications without success can anyone suggest a way of opening these files or repairing them so that I can recover the images?

http://openraw.org/node/1550#comment General and Technical Discussions about RAW Files Thu, 29 Mar 2007 00:04:59 +0900 edwind 1550 at http://openraw.org Proposal for RAW scanning software http://openraw.org/node/1547
I think that scanning slides and negatives to RAW is an excellent way of scanning for archive so that you do not have to rescan every time someone needs a slightly different version of the picture.

As such, the software should be quite simple. There are more than enough RAW processors out there, just pick a RAW format that Adobe RAW can use so I do not have to invest in more software :-) Also, why spend any energy inventing the wheel over again. Let the RAW processing software makers do what they do best. We just need to provide the input.

The functionality needed in the interface:

Preview and crop - It should work with flatbed scanners as well and there is no need to keep all the whitespace.

http://openraw.org/node/1547#comment General and Technical Discussions about RAW Files Thu, 11 Jan 2007 22:49:22 +0900 Oceanwatcher 1547 at http://openraw.org VueScan RAW http://openraw.org/node/1546
I had a little discussion with Ed Hamrick, the maker of VueScan about his RAW format. Basically what he said is that it is a normal TIFF file and that there is no point in editing it with Adobe Camera RAW which BTW is not able to open his TIFF file.

Here is his explanation:

The reason Adobe Camera RAW doesn't read TIFF files is because there's
no reason for it to do this. The whole point of Adobe Camera RAW is to take
images from a color filter array (i.e. one color per pixel) and interpolate this
into a three colors per pixel data source.

Scanners already produce 3 colors per pixel and VueScan's raw files have

http://openraw.org/node/1546#comment General and Technical Discussions about RAW Files Thu, 11 Jan 2007 22:27:57 +0900 Oceanwatcher 1546 at http://openraw.org links user info capture1 http://openraw.org/node/1543
capture1[3.75]
just started using this conversion program
excellent results bizarre icon versus menu interface
heres my attempt to get more info than manual has

http://www.northscape.co.uk/news467.html

Pure Black and White workflow with Capture One:
http://www.outbackphoto.com/artofraw/raw_08/essay.html

And another from Phase One:
http://www.phaseone.com/upload/captureone_creativeprofiles_002.pdf

http://www.outbackphoto.com/artofraw/raw_02/essay.html

http://www.planetneil.com/faq/capture-one.html

Image Capture Software Reference Manual Phase One

http://openraw.org/node/1543#comment General and Technical Discussions about RAW Files Sun, 24 Dec 2006 02:07:35 +0900 automaton3 1543 at http://openraw.org some RAWs are not clear RAW http://openraw.org/node/1541
It has been found on Russian camera-dedicated forum, that some camera manufactures pre-process raw data from matrix before it is stored as RAW file.
http://forum.ixbt.com/topic.cgi?id=20:20473-12#386

They noticed WB adjustment results differed a lot in Pentax own software and ACR, dcraw, UFRaw.
This leaded to suspicion WB settings are already applied to the RAW file. They wrote a program to extract data from RAW and show channel histograms. It happened RAW files shot with different WB settings differed not only in exposures, but in channels.
* AWB: http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/7518/imgp9705pefsrl2.jpg

http://openraw.org/node/1541#comment General and Technical Discussions about RAW Files Tue, 21 Nov 2006 20:48:54 +0900 BigSerpent 1541 at http://openraw.org Nikon NEF and other "propreitory RAW formats" http://openraw.org/node/1540
i want to discuss a scenario...

i have this raw file from any xyz manufacturer...

i want to develop it with the software i like and which meets my need...but some of the morons don't want us to do that...rather they want to force us to use their inferior quality converters...

"i remember the microsoft issue"

another thing...who is the owner of the RAW data...?
if the image right is mine then all of the data should be mine...

how on earth nikon ownes data of the image that "I HAVE SHOT"

who can answer?

anybody???????
http://openraw.org/node/1540#comment General and Technical Discussions about RAW Files Thu, 19 Oct 2006 14:21:55 +0900 shafqat 1540 at http://openraw.org DNG and private data http://openraw.org/node/1539
so...
DNG has a provision for the manufacturers to have their data written there. and it can be encrypted(???)...so why are they calling it a OPEN format?
http://openraw.org/node/1539#comment General and Technical Discussions about RAW Files Thu, 19 Oct 2006 14:09:02 +0900 shafqat 1539 at http://openraw.org Open Software for RAW processing http://openraw.org/node/1536
Which open software are you using to process your shots?
Which one and why?

As for me, i use dcraw + netpbm.

I'd be glad to share my way to do that :)
http://openraw.org/node/1536#comment General and Technical Discussions about RAW Files Thu, 21 Sep 2006 17:17:22 +0900 Zeus Panchenko 1536 at http://openraw.org IF Raw shooter doesn't support Kodak, what can I do? http://openraw.org/node/1534
I just bought a Kodak P880 and I love it, but since I use Paint Shop Pro X and Corel Photo Album 6, I was hoping not to have to use the Easyshare software that came with the camera, especially since I had trouble downloading the latest version that supports kdc., Kodak's raw format file. Is there anything else I can do or try to convert my kdc. files, or should I try to work it out with the Easyshare? If somebody would create a program witch can transform every old RAW-files into the DNG-standard (or an other RAW-format), the DNG-format (or any other RAW-format) would get the standard for all, because everyone can save his old RAW-files for the future.
Good bye
Blaze
http://openraw.org/node/1532#comment General and Technical Discussions about RAW Files Wed, 09 Aug 2006 12:39:45 +0900 Blaze 1532 at http://openraw.org Recovery of deleted Raw files http://openraw.org/node/1531
Hello!
I need help to recover Raw-files that were deleted by accident!

I used "GetDataBack for FAT", and this app finds and restore all my missed files.

The disadvantage is that Photoshop and RawShooter don't recognize the files as RAW.

Can anybody help with a solution?
http://openraw.org/node/1531#comment General and Technical Discussions about RAW Files Thu, 03 Aug 2006 21:27:30 +0900 Tedie Gad 1531 at http://openraw.org How do you use RAW to annimate? http://openraw.org/node/1526
I'd like to learn how to annimate, I have a basic understanding, but would like to know more. However, this brings me to my premise, "After setting up the "Workflow, " canceling all the automatics, and sharpening etc.... All that is really left is to set up the file for the very best "Histogram" to send to PS."

I know I just climbed out on a cliff, but I would like you responce.

P.S. Camera menue preset to min. info.

Rob95222

http://openraw.org/node/1491#comment General and Technical Discussions about RAW Files Mon, 17 Apr 2006 04:34:50 +0900 Rob95222 1491 at http://openraw.org
