i have argued in the past that every bit generated by the sensor is owned by the photographer, and any attempt to withhold total raw data from the photographer constitutes a violation of his/her intellectual property rights. the camera manufacturers have a number of choices: either release all information necessary for a photographer to recover all raw data, adopt a general open standard, or face
lawsuits.
