My problem is that they are messing...
My problem is that they are messing with *MY* property.
The methods, software, algorithms, and circuitry used to produce RAW files belong, rightfully, to the camera manufacturers. And all processes whereby they produce those RAW files are rightfully their proprietary material and, as such, should be protected by patent, trademark, copyright, and whatever other methods they might choose.
However, the RAW file resulting from my use of their equipment, methods, software, algorithms, and circuitry belong to ME -- not them. They have no business whatsoever restricting my access in any way to data that is MINE.
Personally, I don't really care what format the data in the RAW files are written; however, I deserve FULL documentation as to what's there or the camera manufacturers DO NOT deserve my business. It is unconscionable that they consider holding my data for ransom an acceptable business practice.
