Once a photographer exposes the image, the contents of the RAW file belong solely to him. He should have unobstructed access to the data stored in the file without being held hostage by the company who built the camera that created the file. Nor should he have to worry that the camera company supporting the RAW file format in the future. All RAW file formats should be open and well documented. Anyone with programming skills should be able to create a RAW file conversion application without asking permission.
