I sit on the fence on this issue. Having worked with a graphic software development company in the late eighties and early nineties I can understand the manufacturers' desire to create proprietary formats. Many times the standard formats are too restrictive in their data structure to allow for more advanced images. However as no camera manufacturer seems to be aggressively pursuing appreciable income from software sales they should provide the greatest amount of data to their users through an open data format for that person’s use in creating the best image possible. Great images are what sell cameras and software.
